Key Stage 3 Assessment

We have redesigned our Key Stage 3 Assessment and Reporting process to make it clearer for parents/carers to understand what your daughter is learning, how they are progressing, and what they need to do to improve to reach their full potential.

At the beginning of the year using a baseline assessment, data from the CATs tests and from primary school your daughter will be placed in a band for each subject. Bronze, Silver or Gold – these bands are a guide to the grades that she is expected to achieve in her GCSE examinations according to the data.

They are a guide and will be reviewed at the end of each academic year by subject leaders and adjusted where necessary.

Bronze

They are aiming for GCSE grades 3-5 in this subject.

Silver

They are aiming for GCSE grades 5-7 in this subject.

Gold

They are aiming for GCSE grades 7-9 in this subject.

Each subject area has created a progression grid for each of the bands in Years 7,8 & 9. These grids clearly explain what your daughter will learn each term, how they will be assessed and what they have to do to be graded: Above Expected

Progress, Expected Progress, Below Expected Progress, Cause for Concern. They also enable you to see what they would need to do to get to the next level.

If you click on the links below they will take you through to the progression grids.

At the end of each term you will receive a report outlining your daughter’s progress and attitude to learning.

At the end of each year, you will receive a written target for each subject that tells your daughter what she needs to improve in order to make further progress in that area.

For the subjects taught in carousels, the target can be seen on your daughter’s Google classroom as these targets are set when each rotation of the carousel is completed and this is not necessarily at the same time that the reports are due.

More information about the format of the report can be found on the ‘Reporting to Parents’ page of the website.

*** The progression grids for RE are temporary for this year as a new RE syllabus designated by the diocese is being introduced in September, please be aware that as a consequence of this the assessment overview will change during the course of the year.

***We are in the process of widening our Technology offer to the students. We will add the details of the new subjects and the progression grids for them in due course.
